Step 1: Update Your Official Address with Social Security
The federal government manages Medicare records through the Social Security Administration database. Updating your address with the United States Postal Service does not automatically update your official Medicare record. You must complete updating medicare address details directly with Social Security through one of three available methods:
- Online: Log into your personal “my Social Security” account at SSA.gov and update your profile information under the contact tab.
- Phone: Call Social Security toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
- In Person: Visit a local Social Security office in your area to submit your change of address in person.
Note: If you receive benefits from the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) instead of Social Security, call the RRB at 1-877-772-5772 to update your official Medicare file.
