$500 Obamacare Refunds Are Headed to Nearly 1 Million Americans – Do You Qualify?

November 4, 2026 · Personal finance

The federal government is issuing a $500 obamacare refund to nearly one million Americans this autumn. If you pay full price through HealthCare.gov, relief may already be heading to your mailbox or bank account.

Known as the Working Families Obamacare Refunds initiative, these automatic one-time payments target policyholders who receive no monthly premium tax credits.

The initiative delivers a flat, one-time distribution of $500 per eligible person directly back to consumers.

What Is the Working Families Obamacare Refunds Program?

On September 10, 2026, the White House announced the working families obamacare refunds initiative. The program refunds federal money to consumers who paid full insurance costs alone.

The U.S. Treasury Department began distributing payments on September 30, 2026, continuing through October 2026 across eligible states.

Around 950,000 policyholders will receive a flat, one-time payment of $500 per eligible person. A qualifying married couple enrolled on the same policy receives $1,000.

The Treasury delivers funds by paper check or direct deposit, accompanied by an official letter signed by President Donald Trump. Payments process automatically using marketplace records without any required claim form.
