Understanding Your Special Enrollment Period (SEP)

To protect seniors from losing health coverage due to residential moves, federal regulations establish a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). An SEP gives you a specific window of time to disenroll from your existing Medicare Advantage or Part D plan and enroll in a new plan without facing coverage gaps or financial penalties.

“Planning a successful retirement move isn’t just about finding a lower cost of living; it’s about protecting your access to quality healthcare and preserving your financial peace of mind.” — Jean Chatzky, Financial Journalist
