Most Important Financial Benefits For Retirees Offered By Each State

Oregon

– Exemption for Social Security as well as for some retirement income, depending on total income

– Tuition-free auditing classes at Oregon State University and the University of Oregon for residents 65 and older

– Discounted hunting and fishing licenses for seniors 70 and older

– Low-cost bus rides in Salem for owners of Medicare cards and anyone 60 and older; half off for Portland’s TriMet system for residents aged 65 and older

Pennsylvania

– Social Security income or retirement benefits from employers or pension plans are exempt from taxes

– Tuition exemptions depending on school: significantly low fees for credit or audit classes at Penn State for residents aged 60 and older; free audit classes at Clarion University for senior citizens 62 and older or the University of Scranton for residents aged 60 and older

– No fare for rides on some transit lines for residents 65 and older and low fares on others

– Discounted lifetime hunting/fur taker licenses for residents 65 and older

– Low prices for state park camping facilities and swimming pools for residents 62 and older

– Social Security exemption for married couples with adjusted gross income under $100,000 or individuals with AGI under $80,000

– Tuition exemptions at the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, and Community College of Rhode Island for people aged 60 and older

– Residents aged 65 and older benefit from free of charge hunting and freshwater fishing licenses

– Discounted rides on Rhode Island Public Transportation for low-income seniors aged 65 and older
