Tallahassee is the Florida retirement option for retirees who want the state’s famous tax advantages — no income tax, no Social Security tax — without the coastal price tags of Miami, Tampa, or Orlando. Average 1-bedroom rents run around $1,050 per month, leaving the average Social Security recipient with nearly $900 after rent. That’s a comfortable margin for healthcare, food, and leisure.
Florida State University and Florida A&M University give Tallahassee an intellectual and cultural energy rarely found in similarly priced retirement cities. Maclay Gardens State Park, Lake Jackson, and Wakulla Springs State Park — one of the world’s largest freshwater springs — offer spectacular natural recreation just minutes from the city center. Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare and Capital Regional Medical Center both serve the senior population well.
For retirees who want Florida’s climate, zero income tax, and a genuine university-town atmosphere without the tourist crowds and coastal rent premiums, Tallahassee is the smartest choice in the state for 2026 and an ideal landing point for Social Security-supported retirement living.

We live in Las Vegas and need a place that includes utilities and cable. Me and my husband make $38,000 a year and now pay $1000 a month just making it. We need to be out of here by January 2027.
I don’t believe you’ll find any place that pays for cable. Some places pay for water but not gas and electric.
Is Mazatlan Mexico a good option???
I’m in Lakeport Ca I can’t recommend it if you rent good luck finding a good honest landlord. Gas is expensive 5.79 a gallon. Not much to do and some people are strange just like most places I guess. I’m trying to get out asap but where? Please advise 🙏.
I can’t even read the article! All I see are a bunch of ads and links that go to more ads. I see Toledo and that’s it. So where’s the other 24?!
