25 Changes to Your 401(K) Plan That Can Save Your Retirement

April 2, 2021 · Personal finance

Don’t Own Too Much Company Stock

Don’t Own Too Much Company Stock

Has your employer brought up owning company stock in your 401(k)? Many of them do, and it might seem like a good idea until you realize how much they think you should allocate to company stocks. Remember, some retirement incentives and bonuses paid in company stock may also be deposited in your 401(k) plan. That’s a little too much if you ask us!

So, fall back on the rule of thumb- diversify! If your company hits hard times you may lose more than your job and insurance. Your 401(k) could also take a huge hit, leaving you open to financial hardships during retirement.

No matter how much you love and trust your company, remember to be realistic about your portfolio.
