South Carolina

One of the perks of moving to South Carolina is the wide variety of outdoor activities to choose from. Not to mention the amazing mountain scenery and the easy access to beaches. South Carolina is much friendlier in terms of taxes than its sister, North Carolina, with no inheritance or estate tax, and lower property taxes.

In addition, there are numerous active senior communities that surround beach and mountain communities and plenty of places to go and enjoy the laid-back retirement life.

Some of the biggest benefits of retiring in South Carolina include:

  • Affordable housing
  • Tuition-free classes for retirees at the campuses of the University of North Carolina
  • South Carolina is one of the best states for bird watchers, with more than 430 species in the state
  • Spoleto Festival, one of the biggest performing arts festivals in the U.S.
  • Golf lovers can choose from the numerous golf courses across the state
