Kentucky

Another affordable and climate-friendly place to retire to is Kentucky. The Bluegrass State residents can enjoy mild winters and lots of sunshine in the summer. There’s no retirement income tax for veterans in Kentucky and the rest of the taxes are on the low side. In addition, it provides a Homestead tax exemption for people over 65.

Those who want to enjoy a laid-back lifestyle and reconnect with nature can do just that in Kentucky, surrounded by rolling hills, parks with trails and plenty of opportunities to enjoy boating, swimming, and hiking.

Some of the biggest benefits of retiring in Kentucky:

  • Lower real estate and cost of living than other states
  • No tax on social security benefits
  • Numerous recreations options
  • 95% of the world’s bourbon is made in Kentucky
  • The Kentucky Derby
