16 Surprising Places With Great Discounts for Seniors

Retail and Apparel: Wardrobe and Hobby Savings

Updating your wardrobe, buying gifts for grandchildren, or picking up supplies for a new hobby can quickly drain your monthly discretionary fund. Several major retailers offer specific days of the week dedicated to older shoppers.

1. Ross Dress for Less

Ross already offers heavily discounted apparel and home goods, but older adults can stack those savings even further. Through the “Every Tuesday Club,” shoppers aged 55 and older receive an additional 10% off their entire purchase. You must sign up for the club at the customer service desk with a valid ID. Once registered, the store provides a physical card to present at checkout every Tuesday.

2. Kohl’s

Kohl’s is famous for its confusing but lucrative coupon stacking system—Kohl’s Cash, seasonal discounts, and clearance racks. However, they also offer a dedicated senior discount. Every Wednesday, shoppers aged 60 and older receive 15% off their in-store purchases. You simply need to bring identification to verify your age. Keep in mind that this discount cannot be stacked with other percent-off coupons, though it can usually be combined with Kohl’s Cash.

3. Michaels

Retirement is the perfect time to pick up painting, knitting, or woodworking. Michaels makes funding these hobbies significantly easier by offering a 10% discount to anyone 55 and older. Unlike many retailers that restrict discounts to specific days, Michaels applies this discount every day of the week. Furthermore, this discount applies to your entire purchase, including sale items. You must register for a free Michaels Rewards account and verify your age within your online profile to use it seamlessly at the register.

4. Walgreens

Prescriptions, vitamins, and everyday household items add up fast. Walgreens hosts a “Seniors Day” on the first Tuesday of every month. On this day, shoppers who are 55 and older—or anyone with an active AARP membership—receive 20% off eligible regular-priced merchandise. This applies to most items in the store, excluding prescriptions, dairy, and tobacco. The discount is also available online for the entire first week of the month if you prefer to have your necessities shipped directly to your door.
