9. Active Adult (55+) Communities

Active adult communities are master-planned developments built specifically for retirees who want a resort-like environment. Homes in these communities are usually single-story, low-maintenance properties surrounded by extensive amenities. Golf courses, pickleball courts, massive clubhouses, and dozens of specialized hobby clubs are standard.

You own the home, but a Homeowners Association (HOA) handles all exterior maintenance, landscaping, and snow removal. This option is ideal if you are healthy, active, and looking to aggressively expand your social circle. Keep in mind that active adult communities do not provide any medical care or assistance with daily living; you are simply buying into a demographic-specific neighborhood focused on recreation.
