9 Ways to Shop at Costco Without a Membership

3. Book Appointments for Eye and Hearing Exams

Original Medicare presents several glaring coverage gaps; it notably excludes routine dental, vision, and hearing care. Consequently, retirees are often left paying out of pocket for annual eye exams and audiologist visits. Costco warehouses lease space to independent optometrists and audiologists, and you do not need a membership to schedule an exam with these professionals.

You can call your local warehouse, ask to be connected to the optical or hearing department, and book your appointment. When you arrive, let the entrance greeter know you have a scheduled medical appointment. The caveat here is straightforward: while the exams are open to the public, purchasing the actual eyeglasses, contact lenses, or hearing aids requires an active membership. Still, obtaining a highly affordable, thorough exam from a licensed professional is an excellent way to reduce your medical overhead. Once you have your written prescription, you can shop online or at discount retailers for the actual hardware.
