If you live in a place where the nights are cooler you can leave your ceiling fan on while the windows are open. This will suck cool air inside, meaning that your home will still be cool the following day.
Plus, don’t forget to unplug them during the cooler months, unless your fans are hardwired. In that case, just don’t forget to turn them off.
Incandescent Light Bulb
Luckily for all of us, the average wattage of incandescent light bulbs is written right there on the packaging- no need to go the extra mile to find this information out, great! They cost you a penny per hour, with 150-watt bulbs costing you two cents an hour.
Here’s the thing, though- you can still save money by giving them up entirely. Get CFL bulbs instead which use less energy. There’s an added bonus! They’ll also save you plenty of trips to the hardware store.
That’s because a 15-watt CFL bulb will last 10 times as long and use a quarter of the energy a 60-watt incandescent bulb uses. What’s more, a 12W LED light lasts 25 times as long, and barely uses one fifth as much energy!
