18. Retirees Are More Likely to Directly Own Stocks

The most recent study available shows that seniors are more likely to directly own stocks. We know this thanks for the Federal Reserve and the 2016 Survey of Consumer Finances, which states that 15.5% of people between the ages of 55 to 64 do, followed by elders 65 to 74 at 15.2%

But what’s more surprising is that even more people aged 75 directly own stocks, more than any other age group. Does this mean that as we age we’re more likely to use our finances like this? Or perhaps it’s because these people have started earlier on and, as they grew, they became more confident in the system and persisted on working on their diverse portfolios.
