3. Live closer to children and grandchildren

A lot of parents have looked forward to seeing their children leave home so they could start their own families. More often than not it’s a combination of wanting them to succeed on their own and looking forward to some privacy.

But things often change during retirement. Elders typically want to spend more and more time with their loved ones, and when grandchildren are involved, those needs seem to grow exponentially.

You can pick a property close to your family, but the best part is gaining the ability to move whenever you want, wherever you want. If you have several grandchildren that live in different areas, you can switch between properties at the drop of a hat, whereas if you stay in your home then you’ll have to carefully divide your vacation time between several families.
