6 States That Are Perfect for Healthy and Active Seniors

October 12, 2020 · Retirement Life

With adults over the age of 65 making up more than 15% of the total population according to the Census Bureau, it’s no wonder we should all take health care more seriously, especially during retirement. Sure, medicine has made some incredible advances over the ast couple of decades but ask yourself if you will have proper access to them once you settle down and exit the workforce!

That’s not something you want to gamble on, especially if you have a preexisting condition. If you do then it’s important to think about relocating during retirement, preferably in a state that has been known for great healthcare services. And even if you don’t have a preexisting condition, it’s still worth looking into for your peace of mind.

After carefully reviewing each state we’ve come up with the 6 best places to live for seniors who are interested in getting the best health care possible! Click through to find out if your home state is on the list and, if not, you might want to consider relocating your nest egg!

6. New Hampshire

New Hampshire’s motto is “Live Free or Die” which may seem a little ironic considering the fact they made it on this particular list! The only concerning percentage in the Granite State is the 8.7% of seniors who drink excessively.

Otherwise, seniors here are known to be active, encouraged by their communities, healthier lifestyles, and medical professionals. As such, 67.6% of seniors here are able-bodied. 52% are considered to be in high health.

The state is to thank for these incredible numbers since it funnels $1,591 toward every senior in poverty, bringing down the elder poverty rate to a shocking 5.8%, the lowest in the nation. As such, this portion of the population can maintain a healthy and active lifestyle without struggling with day to day living expenses.
