Jersey City has made it on our list for two reasons. First, you won’t find houses cheaper than the average of $575,000, cutting your savings significantly in one fell swoop.

Secondly, prices for adult day healthcare are through the roof. Whether you’re interested in renting a semi-private or a private nursing home room, it’ll cost you a pretty penny. In fact, Jersey City has the highest average annual costs of all the cities on our list.

We’re not sure anything could make up for prices that high, so our verdict is that you should lay your hat in another city.

  1. I can tell you first hand,Don’t move to Calif!!! I lived in Calif most of my life and in a couple months am going to retire and get out of Calif..too expensive,everything is taxed and housing prices are terrible.
