16. It’s possible to claim benefits on a spouse’s work record

If your spouse has earned a lot more money during their career than you have, claiming benefits on their work record could be beneficial. You should expect as much as 50% of their benefits, but it all depends on their FRA and when they claim their benefits.

If that 50% is more than what you’re projected to earn, go for it!

But you should also keep in mind that you’ll only be able to do this after they’ve started claiming their benefits.
