Kentucky

Kentucky is the fifth-worst state in the nation when it comes to seniors living in poverty, a rate that has reached 10.3%. What’s more, 16.6% of elders worry about their next meals. The percentage of able-bodied seniors (59.5%) is also the fifth worse in America. 36.5% are also physically inactive.

Louisiana

With a poverty rate of 12%, Louisiana is the third-worst state in the U.S. in this regard. A concerning 21.7% of seniors also suffer from food insecurity, making it the worst figure across the nation.
There are currently 128,000 people over the age of 65 still working in Louisiana (17.6% of seniors).

Maine

In Maine, you’ll find that 48,000 of seniors are still working, meaning that 16.9% of seniors have not retired yet.
Poverty is still a concern, of course, with it reaching 8.1%. But even more worrying is the food insecurity rate, which has reached 14.3%. It is, therefore, good that 49.7% have reported as being in high health, meaning that they could avoid retirement if need be. In this regard, Maine is the third-best in the U.S.

Maryland

A surprising number of seniors are still working in Maryland. In fact, 26.9% are in the workforce currently, translating to 245,000 people over the age of 65.
Furthermore, 68.8% of seniors have also been reported to be able-bodied, which will certainly come in handy in case they are part of the 7.9% that are in poverty since they could still work. The food insecurity rate in Maryland is 11.4%.
