6. Adult Education & Workshop Facilitator

Retirement allows you to turn decades of professional expertise or personal hobbies into income. Community centers actively recruit individuals to teach short-term adult education workshops on topics ranging from basic computer literacy and smartphone usage to digital photography, personal budgeting, gardening, or woodworking.

Rather than committing to a full-time teaching schedule, facilitators often teach one- or two-hour sessions once or twice a week. You set the course curriculum with the center’s program director, making this one of the most intellectually stimulating community jobs for older adults. Depending on center budgets and class enrollment fees, facilitators earn between $20 and $35 per hour, or receive a percentage of class tuition fees.
