Are you planning on working in the future?

Another important question you need to consider: What career development opportunities do you have in your field? Take some time to digest the question, because it’s not easy to answer it right away. Given the current crisis, it’s difficult to say what the future might bring to industries and businesses, making it difficult for you as well to determine if finding a new job would be easy or hard in your field or elsewhere.

One thing you should consider is how much your current industry is or will be affected by social distancing. How many open positions did the industry usually have? Once you determine that, you might have a sense of how difficult it might get to find new employment.

Why it’s important

If landing your current job was not easy, you might want to take this aspect into consideration before leaving ahead of time. Similarly, if your field usually reduces the number of jobs when times change, you could be forced to retire earlier than planned anyway.

Whether you’ve just been laid off or convinced that you’ll be able to decide when and how to leave your job, knowing what other types of work are available on the market (any market) is a positive thing.
