AreaVibes gave the scores for Brownsville and its low cost of living: $35,304/year. With $850K, seniors can last in this city for 24.1 years. Living in Brownsville is way more affordable than living in Austin or Houston.

The lower cost of living in the city proper has a direct correlation with the low cost of housing throughout the region. But, certain areas are pricier than others: Waterfront communities, such as Port Isabel and South Padre Island see median home prices that are more expensive than the metro area average. Even so, Brownsville citizens pay less than the average American for groceries.
