22 Useful Tips to Maximize Your Retirement Benefits

Nothing is free from error and your Social Security check is no exception. That’s why it’s important to verify your Social Security statement carefully to ensure your reported income is the correct one.

Given that your Social Security benefits are calculated based on what you’ve earned throughout the years, it’s vital that everything you’ve earned is acknowledged and registered so that you can receive the maximum benefits. If you notice any errors on your earnings record, take immediate action to correct them.

Collect benefits for minors

If you don’t know this by now, if you have any unmarried dependent children 18 or younger at the time you start receiving benefits, the children in question can receive benefits as well.

According to the SSA, biological, adopted, step- and grandchildren are considered acceptable dependents and eligible for benefits. More than that, any children who were disabled before they age 22 and full-time, high school students aged 18 to 19 years old are also eligible.
