Will You Work During Retirement? 10 Shocking Retirement Stats!

October 27, 2020 · Retirement Life

Health in older age is a concern

We live longer than we ever had in human history, but is everyone taking the right steps to ensure their golden years will be healthy as well? It’s not enough to stay fit and eat healthy during your youth, you have to maintain a balanced diet and exercise all throughout your life if you want to avoid medical issues in the future.

89% of workers and retirees have solid concerns about their health- and that’s a very scary statistic, according to yet another Transamerica study. Scarier still is that only 43% regularly think about health when making lifestyle choices, 55% avoid harmful behaviors, 56% work out regularly and 58% eat healthy diets.

This all means that about half of respondents should take their health a little more seriously!

Closing the health care coverage gap

How much money have you set aside for health care? Did you know that in 2020, it is said that a couple over the age of 65 should have at least $295,000 to cover medical expenses during retirement?

Though most people rely on Medicare for their health, you must remember that the program does not cover everything. On top of that, it is estimated that a couple will need to spend at least 15% of their annual income on medical expenses.

Let’s not forget that these figures do not cover long-term care. Regardless of your needs now, you must seriously consider the possibility that you or your spouse might require long term care in the future.
