Get notified when debts and rents aren’t paid

Loans are tricky, even when it comes to family members or other people you know. When someone asks for a loan but doesn’t give the money back or when someone suggests moving in to share the bills and other household costs such as mortgage or rent, but doesn’t help you pay for anything, you might be the victim of financial abuse.

Remember your money is yours alone

Watch out when your money is used by someone else to pay for their own expenses. You might be asked to repay them for their visits, to compensate them for their apparent help with giving you financial advice and the like. In some cases, they can turn their financial demands into threats, steal money or household effects, keep money, medicine or food away from you so that you are left at their beck and call.
