19. Retirement Doesn’t Mean You Stop Working
For most seniors, retiring also means leaving the workforce permanently. That means no part-time jobs, no side gigs, no consulting work. But did you know that as many as 54% of retirees plan on still working? That’s according to the Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies.
It might not always be for financial reasons, either. Some might like their jobs enough to stay on board, others might want to just keep busy. If you’re in good health and can keep up, there’s no reason you should quit.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look after your finances, especially when it comes to your Social Security, as working while claiming benefits can be troublesome and you may incur penalties.
