Thailand, on the other hand, offers a one-year retirement visa which can be later extended. Also, your retirement checks will surely go further in this tropical country. You can easily live anywhere with only $1,500 to $2,000 a month, rent included.

Plus, the affordable city of Chiang Mai has lots of modern amenities, such as health clubs, shopping malls, and high-quality health care. And if you prefer Bangkok, don’t worry. It’s just as affordable and it also has some of the best private hospitals in the country. Expat retirees are required to have savings and an annual income of at least $800,000 Thai baht, which is currently about $24,000.

    If 72% of SS checks go out to retirees, who’s the other 28%?

      Disability. The SS office is also in charge of disability
