10 Low-Cost Waterfront Places for a Perfect Retirement

August 26, 2020 · Retirement Life

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Medicare coverage move with me to another state?

If you have Original Medicare (Parts A and B), your coverage is valid at any facility in the United States that accepts Medicare. However, if you have a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan or a standalone Part D prescription drug plan, these are regional. Moving outside your plan’s service area requires you to enroll in a new plan tailored to your new zip code.

Are property taxes higher on the water?

Generally, yes. Property taxes are based on the assessed value of the home. Because waterfront property commands a market premium, the assessed value—and therefore the tax bill—is usually higher than a comparable inland home. Always verify the specific county millage rates before purchasing.

How can I test a retirement location before committing?

The smartest financial move you can make is to rent in your chosen destination for at least three to six months, preferably during the “off-season.” This allows you to experience the local healthcare system, grocery store prices, and weather patterns without tying up your liquidity in real estate.

I JOINED USA NAVY IN 1964 TO AVOID THE ARMY DRAFT.
I ATTENDED ELECTRICIAN SCHOOL AND WENT TO AN
AIRCRAFT CARRIER IN SAN DIEGO. WE MADE 2 TRIPS TO
VIET NAM. OUR SHIP HAD 3,500 MEN ABORD; I WAS PROMOTED
TO E-4 ELECTRICIANS MATE. I DO NOT REGRET ANY DECIONS
THAT I MADE IN MY LIFE. MY WIFE AND I ARE MARRIED 50
YEARS NOW. PRAISE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. I AM SURE
