Portland, Maine

If you wish for a four-season climate, head north in Portland, Maine. You can savor lobster, visit the lighthouses in the surroundings and in the rocky coastline down the Atlantic Ocean. The average home price for those ages 60 and older is $249,200, while the median rent is $783 per month.

When it comes to taxes, Maine brings a mixed bag for retirees. Residents can deduct up to $10,000 in pension and retirement-account income from state taxes. While winters in Portland can be a bit harsh, retirees that are seeking a break from the snow can always go to Portland International Jetport, as it’s 15 minutes from downtown.

Bad choices. Boston? Taxes. San Diego? Restrictions for COVID-19, highest taxes, highest gas prices until the State throws out the Democrats. Miami? Really? This is retirement.
