10 Mistakes That Reduce Your Social Security Payments

2. Receiving some types of pensions

Not everyone is eligible for Social Security because not everyone pays into the system. Some workers may actually rely on a pension for their retirement, depending on their employment.

In some states, this includes firefighters and police officers. For the most part, however, those that work in the school systems (including college and university) and employees of state and local government agencies might be eligible for pensions instead.

Sorry, you can’t get both- what a bummer, right?
