Make the Most of Your Social Security Benefit

Your Social Security benefits should supplement your retirement income but making the most of them can be a little bit confusing.

The first thing you need to know is that when you start claiming them you could improve your retirement situation significantly. That’s because you gain more money by waiting until you’re 70. On the opposite end of the spectrum, claiming early will reduce your benefits.

You should also consider how you’re claiming them. If your spouse has a better work history, it might be worth it to claim theirs. If you’re divorced, you could even look into claiming your ex’s benefits- they won’t even be aware of this happening.

When the time comes make sure you’re got a game plan and that you’re making the most out of the program.
