14. Don’t Base Your Decision on a Vacation
Do you think that because a city is a great place to visit on vacation it’s also a good place to retire? That’s very often not the case. Why? Because touristy areas are often very expensive, especially when it comes to food and entertainment. Plus, when you vacation somewhere you don’t typically consider their tax rates, year round weather, social norms or politics. When you retire, these things will be important in your daily life.
So don’t fall into this trap. You might find that retiring where you’ve vacationed is a bad idea. Plus, are you a fan of crowded places? We tend not to worry about tourists too much when we’re part of the crowd, but when we live somewhere we might be surprised about how much they can get on our nerves.
