Fake Government Agents
Be careful: Another scam would be when the senior in question is asked to pay for a warrant because he/she missed jury duty, otherwise, he or she will be arrested. The most efficient such frauds are the ones in which the coon rushes up to ask for money immediately to pay some proprietary “taxes”. The dishonest person may even be persistent, threatening the poor elder with the police.
Dangers: You can’t get your money back if you’ve already paid.
What is being done: AARP helps seniors discover such scams and the Internal Revenue Service helps to prevent them.
