26. Unreliable Distribution of Assets

Financial advisor Kirk Chisholm adds another threat to our list. The usual formula for calculating the percentage of bonds in your portfolio is 100, minus your age. However, Chisholm advocates for caution. Investors are more likely to lose money in bonds or waste their time by chasing yields, due to the low rates. Chisholm said on the matter, “This is a mistake you don’t want to make so close to your retirement.”
