Most Important Financial Benefits For Retirees Offered By Each State

Georgia

– Social Security is not taxed; up to $65,000 of retirement income for 65 and older and $35,000 for those 62-64 per person is exempt from taxes

– There’s no estate tax

– No fees for classes for credit or audit at any Georgia public college for seniors 62 and older

– Low-cost public transportation in Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah; paratransit and shuttle services provided in other areas

– Hunting or fishing licenses without any fees

– Discounted state park passes for residents 62 and older

Hawaii

– The state does not tax Social Security or income generated by employer contributions to pension and profit-sharing programs

– Significant property-tax exemptions for senior homeowners; the lowest property tax rate (0.27%) of all states

– Senior Citizen Visitors Program offers free class auditing at the University of Hawaii and several state community colleges

– $1 bus fare for Medicare card or senior card owners in Honolulu, Kauai, and other cities

Idaho

– Social Security income is not taxed

– Non-credit classes are free at the College of Southern Idaho for residents 60 and older

– Property tax relief of up to $1,320 for low-income seniors aged 65 and older

– Low-cost for buses, coupons for taxi rides, and paratransit for individuals with disabilities in Boise and its suburbs; transport services to medical appointments, senior centers, recreational locations, and adult day-care facilities via the Idaho Commission on Aging

– Cheaper licenses and tags for hunting and fishing for seniors 65 and older
