Supplemental Security Income
The Supplemental Security Income program is often confused with the Social Security Disability Insurance program. Although both of them are managed by the Social Security Administration, the money for the Supplemental Security Income program is not obtained from Social Security taxes but from general tax dollars.
More than that, the SSI program pays benefits to adults and children with disabilities, blindness and in dire need of financial help, regardless of their work history. Financial support is provided for basic needs such as food, clothing and housing.
