18. Garfield Ridge — Chicago

Garfield Ridge is known for being an intermediary between city life and calm suburbs. The combination of locally owned businesses and single-family homes boosts its charm, and it seems that retirees are fairly attracted to this neighborhood. As much as 15.9% of the population is aged 65 or over. Garfield Ridge also scored 65 on the livability scale.

Is buying a house here worth it? You’ll be paying $50,000 less than in Chicago since the median listing price is $274,900. If you want to head downtown you only need to set aside 30 minutes for a car ride. Want to escape even further? Then look no further than the Chicago Midway International Airport.
