12 Best States to Retire in 2021

February 19, 2021 · Personal finance

Delaware

If you’re searching for an affordable state on the East Coast to spend your golden years, you might want to include Delaware on your shortlist. That’s because the Diamond State is truly a retirement oasis, with some of the lowest property taxes in the country and no sales tax, low cost of living and quality healthcare facilities.

Delaware residents can enjoy the small-town life but also big city-like amenities, endless strips of pristine beaches and vibrant local culture. “In Delaware, it’s easy to get places but removed from the hustle and bustle,” said Alyssa Titus, director of marketing at Schell Brothers, a Delaware-based home construction company.

Some of the biggest benefits of retiring in Delaware include:

  • Low real estate taxes
  • Hiking lovers can choose from 10,000 acres of state parks and over 150 miles of trails
  • Numerous art galleries, performing art theaters and estate tours
  • Award-winning restaurants and premium cuisine
