11 Essential Facts About Assisted Living You Need to Know

November 19, 2020 · Retirement Life

Who covers the costs of assisted living?

When it comes to picking up the check, there are various options for various budgets. For example, for elderly people and/or their families with more financial means, the best payment option would be out of pocket or with an insurance policy. This would allow them to choose whatever facility they like.

On the other hand, seniors who meet the criteria for financial and medical need can cover the costs through Medicaid, as long as they become residents of Medicaid-approved facilities only. Disabled veterans, people aged 65 or older who served in active military operations can receive financial support to cover the costs of in-home caregivers, assisted-living facilities, or a nursing home of their choice.

What about Medicare and assisted living costs?

Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover the costs of assisted-living services. Also, Medicaid cannot help seniors in terms of payouts for room and board in assisted-living facilities. However, depending on the state you live in, certain costs can be paid with the help of Medicaid.  On that note, it might be useful to know more about these 7 Unexpected Things Medicare Does Not Cover.
