Email Requests

Another classic method of scamming seniors is to receive an email that appears to be from SSA. According to Mint, you will receive a letter from the SSA with any payment instructions and alternative options, if you need to make a payment by mail.

Plus, government fees and fines will never be paid with internet currency, wire transfers, or STORE GIFT CARDS! If you receive an e-mail that requires you to pay something by one of these methods, it’s just because scammers know how tough it is to track them down and get your money back.

You can easily spot scam emails because they’re oftentimes misspelled or have lots of grammar mistakes. While the letters may contain words that are common in government jargon or look extremely official, they also contain many grammatical errors.
