New England is well known for its high prices. Pittsfield, however, represents a surprising breath of fresh air and affordability for the western region of Massachusetts. Much more affordable and cheaper than Boston and Cambridge which exceed the U.S. average living costs by 48.1% and 38.1% respectively.

In addition, compared to Massachusetts where the median home value is $407,400 and $592,300 in Boston, the housing prices in Pittsfield are significantly better, with a median home value of $173,200.

The view is particularly spectacular in fall but there are interesting things to do and places to see all year round. Whether it’s camping, fishing, skiing or simply enjoying a show at the Tanglewood Music Center, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, you can never get bored in this city. Add the stunning art at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown and the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art in North Adams, and you’ll enjoy an exquisite cultural experience.
