Around $90 million was the sum of money won by an Alzheimer patient’s family when the woman died after being at West Virginia’s Heartland Nursing Home for just under three weeks. Even though the woman wasn’t healthy before, she entered the facility being able to talk and walk on her own and ended up in a “comatose state” as described by the family’s lawyer. In her 19 day stay, the staff did not provide her with water which left her dehydrated and malnourished.

Neglect being one of the most basic forms of mistreatment, you should watch how employees treat the elderly. Are patients on a first name basis with the staff? Do people seem emotionally withdrawn? These are important signs to look for during your search.
