If you’ve just finished paying off your second car, the thought of selling it might make you especially cranky. But the truth is, cars are expensive. When you take gas, insurance costs and maintenance into account, you’re basically paying hundreds of dollars per month. And for what?

If your household has more than one vehicle, sit down with your spouse and figure out if keeping more than one is advantageous. As you approach retirement, you’ll probably have to travel apart less and less, so that’s another thing you need to take into consideration.

Not to mention the fact that you can put the money towards your retirement savings, giving you an additional boost.
