Working During Retirement? 11 Smart Tips for Seniors!

Find a Flexible Job

One way to ensure you can delay your retirement for longer is by looking for a flexible job. The ability to control your schedule will help navigate this new part of your life with ease and will give you the boost and confidence to stay in the workforce for longer than normal.

Plus, a flexible job will also open up your schedule so that you can spend more time with your family, on your hobbies, or traveling! Sure, flexible jobs come with decreased pay, but it sure beats living on a fixed income for the rest of your life!

Phase Into Retirement

If you’re interested in a phased retirement, talk to your current boss (if your current workplace is somewhere you want to stay). Even if there is no formal program in place, your employer may be willing to work out an arrangement that will give you the flexibility you desire while passing on your knowledge and experience to the next generation.

If you want to stay at your current job, even if you don’t know of any opportunities of opening for a flexible job, it’s best to talk to your boss before handing in your resignation.

If you’re a valuable member of the team and could share your experience and knowledge with the younger generation, then they will more likely come up with an arrangement that fits both of your needs. Use this opportunity to phase into retirement instead of quitting altogether.

If this isn’t an option for you, look for part-time work elsewhere. If you’re an expert in your field, any company would want to have you on board, even for a limited amount of time!
