‘You should rely on your spouse’s benefits if they earn more money than you.’

Alright, there are situations where it makes sense to rely on spousal benefits. If your work record isn’t impressive then yes, you should consider this option. But also keep in mind that the amount of money will come up to only half of your partner’s payments. 

If your work record is good you should know that the program will compare you to your spouse, giving you the bigger benefits. 

Lastly, if you ultimately decide to rely on your spouse don’t forget that you must have been married for at least a year and your loved one should already be receiving benefits.
