30 Electronics That Are Hiking up Your Electric Bill for No Reason

April 23, 2021 · Saving & Spending

Heated Towel Rack

Who doesn’t love grabbing a warm towel off the towel rack after a bath or a shower? But are you thinking about all the money you’re spending? Their average wattage sits at 140 watts, costing you $0.02 per hour. It doesn’t sound like much but consider this: some of them do not even come with an off switch, or even a timer. The only way to turn them off is by unplugging them. How often do you do that?

Annually, you’re likely to pay between $140 and $375 for this daily luxury if it’s plugged all day every day.

The simple solution is to only have your heated towel rack on while you shower- or a little before that if you shower quickly! Then, don’t forget to unplug it!

Coffee Maker

For such a small appliance, you’d be surprised by how much energy your coffee maker uses. Their average wattage? 1,000 watts. That means that the cost per hour is $0.12. It’s best to keep it unplugged if you’re not using it.

With instant coffee makers, we recommend getting a timed plug that will help switch it off completely and turn it back on when it’s time for your morning cup of joe!
