30 Electronics That Are Hiking up Your Electric Bill for No Reason

April 23, 2021 · Saving & Spending

Dishwasher

Depending on your washer, you could be spending between $0.04 or $0.12 per hour on your dishwasher. These have an average wattage of 330, so you might want to unplug it from time to time.

But let’s say you forget, or can’t be bothered, or you can’t even reach the plug comfortably. What then? A great idea is to use it only when it’s full. If it’s not but you need to wash dishes then you may as well hand-wash one or two instead.

ALso, if your dishwasher is old it may be time to invest in a new one. Newer models are far more efficient nowadays. We recommend you do this even if your old one is still working since you’ll get a pay off in terms of using less energy over time.

Furnace Fan

Keeping a furnace fan running all year long will cost you $310. With an average wattage of 290 watts, the cost per hour sits at $0.04. See how it all adds up?

Some of you may not be able to unplug them if they’re hardwired, so simply make sure to switch it off during the summer!
