Side effects of the presidential election

Social Security was a hot topic during the presidential campaign. President-elect Joe Biden said that “Social Security is the bedrock of American retirement,” therefore, his victory is expected to produce certain effects on the future of the Social Security and Medicare programs. For instance, switching Social Security COLA benefits to the CPI-E calculation, a measure on President Biden’s agenda, strongly endorsed by the Senior Citizen’s League.

Among the list of core priorities on his presidential campaign platform, Biden also talked about strategic measures to “preserve and strengthen Social Security” and to “protect and strengthen Medicare”.
