30 Electronics That Are Hiking up Your Electric Bill for No Reason

April 23, 2021 · Saving & Spending

Too many American households are frustrated with their electric bills… but does that mean that cutting them down is easy? If it were, we wouldn’t be here today, would we?

Surprisingly, there are many ways you could save money in this department and you probably already know what we’re talking about. Unplugging various devices around the house will help you tremendously but let’s be honest, though a lot of people know this, very few actually put it into practice.

That’s why today we decided to show you how much you’re going to save exactly. Hopefully, armed with this information, you’ll think twice about going to bed without first going through your house to turn off outlets or unplug appliances.

What’s costing you the most, though? Well, to figure this out you need to know how many kilowatt-hours (kWh) your devices are using, sometimes in a month, other times in a year. What this means is that we’ll be looking at how much power they use in an hour of being turned on. Most appliances supply a wattage or how many wattages they operate at. Divide that number by 1,000 and then multiply that number by how many hours in a day you use them.

You’ll be left with how many kilowatt-hours a day you’re using with that item. From there, it’s easy to determine which things you should keep a close eye on in your house. You’ll need to find out your utility rate from your energy provider or use the average rate provided by the U.S. Department of Energy, $0.12 per kWh.
