Rochester, N.Y. — $775

Don’t let the fact that Rochester is located in one of the most expensive states in the country scare you away. The median price for a one-bedroom home is surprisingly cheap in Rochester and the city scored the highest in terms of walkability, making it a great place for people interested in exercise during retirement.

With almost 750,000 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county that Rochester nestles in is also the most populous on this list. However, there aren’t that many residents 65 or older in walking around in Rochester, with the senior population struggling to reach 10 percent.
