Requiring your Social Security number

If you receive a phone call and the caller claims to be from SSA and wants you to confirm your Social Security number (SSN) over the phone, it’s most probably a scam. You must have dealt with them on a personal business matter, such as a benefit claim. In this case, you should know the name and/or ID number of a specific agent and be able to verify that it’s the same worker you spoke to before.
